Difference between Die Casting and Lost-wax casting

Both of the two processes belong to precision casting, which are quite different. They are two completely different casting processes.

Die casting is to pour the molten metal into the steel mold on the die casting machine and squeeze it through the die casting machine. The process is relatively simple and suitable for small non-ferrous metal parts with low melting point.

Lost-wax casting is simply to do a good job of wax mold, and then make shell on the wax mold, then melt the wax mold, and finally pour the metal liquid into the empty shell after melting the wax mold, solidification molding. Complex process, suitable for various alloy small and medium castings.

So where is the difference between the two processes

The input of production cost :

Die Casting Process - Me Mechanical

Die casting : The biggest drawback of die casting is high cost. Die casting machine and mold, mold related components relative to other casting methods are very expensive. Therefore, it is more economical to produce a large number of products when manufacturing die castings.

Lost-wax Casting : Lost-wax Casting has less investment and can be replaced by manual or automated equipment throughout the process, but the cost of lost-wax casting is 4-6 times lower than that of die casting even with full automated equipment

Different application fields :

Die casting : this process is only applicable to metals with high fluidity, and the casting quality must be between 30 g and 10 kg.

Lost-wax casting : The production of precision casting with wax-loss method can not only achieve mass production, ensure the consistency of the casting, but also avoid the stress concentration of residual blade after mechanical processing.

Advantages and disadvantages :

Die casting : Due to the huge investment cost, it is more economical to produce in large quantities. In normal die casting, the last batch of castings always have pores. Therefore, no heat treatment or welding can be carried out, because the gas in the gap will expand under the action of heat, resulting in internal micro defects and surface stripping. Die castings usually have sand holes, burrs, large amount of later processing.

Lost-wax casting : Because of the high dimensional accuracy and surface smoothness of Lost-wax casting castings, it can reduce the mechanical processing work. Only a small amount of work can be left in the parts with high requirements, and even some castings can be polished and polished without mechanical processing. Thus, the use of precision casting method can save a lot of machine equipment and processing time, greatly save metal raw mat
